Could engineering hold your next opportunity?
The men and women who work in engineering play a critical role in the design, construction, operation and management of current and future plants.
Their knowledge of the latest equipment, maintenance methods and technology help to make our plants as efficient as possible with the least environmental impact.
Their skills in the design and operation of manufacturing lines ensure that we are following best practices to provide the highest value manufacturing processes in our industry.
The most common plant-based engineering disciplines that we offer are related to process controls, chemical, mechanical, electrical, paper, mining and industrial. Engineers come to work for us to gain hands on experience in a wide variety of engineering disciplines and this opens up opportunities to manage people and projects. Many of our management positions throughout the company began as engineers in our plants.
Their focus on health and safety helps to provide a safe and reliable working environment for everyone in the plant. We rely on their expertise when upgrading existing sites and setting up new ones, and their global cooperation and teamworking mean that our standards remain high.

I have always worked on the manufacturing-side of the business and I love that I can use my engineering skills in such a tangible and impactful way. Over the 6 ½ years that I’ve worked for Knauf, my highlight has been my role in the Central Start Up Team, supporting our new plant in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It was such a great opportunity to work with a diverse team and experience the different cultures. I also made some great friends in the process! It all started after I completed my Chemical Engineering Masters degree in 2016, when I joined the Process Support and Development team as a Binder Process Engineer. My role was to test new raw materials from their starting point in the lab up to full plant scale trials. I was at the heart of developing new test methods and providing best practice to our Glass Mineral Wool plants in the EMEA region, through training and on-site support. At the start of 2021 I moved to St. Helens plant as the MPS (Multi-Pack Systems) Leader and Energy Manager. The role was an exciting challenge for me, driving engagement through the shift teams to reduce waste and variation from the MPS process, and working to reduce energy consumption through training and awareness. Towards the end of 2022 I accepted my current role as Sustainability Engineer, also retaining my Energy Manager responsibilities. The Sustainability Network at Knauf Insulation is growing and across the plants and regions we all meet regularly to share ideas and progress on sustainability projects. I’m looking forward to delivering training and workshops on Sustainability, and further promoting what we can all do to reduce our carbon footprint. As well as my current responsibilities, I am a member of the St. Helens Plant Community Team, a group which reaches out to local charities in the area to provide support, whether it be volunteering or fundraising activities. In addition to that I recently joined the Knauf Insulation Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) working group because D&I is a topic which I am passionate about. As a group we have started to roll-out D&I workshops throughout the regions, and I have just started facilitating these with my peers in the KINE region. I’m really enjoying facilitating these workshops and getting involved in the conversations that come from it. I chose Knauf because it was important for me and my development to start my career in a company which was rich in opportunities to grow personally and professionally, that upheld its values, and was committed to sustainability. I stay with Knauf because it has met all these expectations and more!
